I'm a researcher investigating the relationship between subjectivity and the material sites that condition its emergence. Building on the philosophy of Alain Badiou, I argue that we have lost touch with the notion of “truth” that requires subjectivity in order to be brought into the realm of meaning and knowledge. In its place, we increasingly trust technological systems to generate meaning and thus new futures, even though they, for now, lack the ability to recognise unpredictable truths, resulting in a pathological temporality that François Hartog calls presentism. My work seeks to redraw the boundaries between materialism, technology, and subjectivity, so that we can once again realize futures dialectically from material histories.
